LUCIAN GIETZ September 19, 1930 - November 4, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Papa, Opa and Uncle, Lucian Gietz. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Regina; son Dirk (Sandra); daughter Sonja; Ellen and Otto Gebhardt, Maria Christiansen, Trudy Matz; grandchildren Diandra, Evan, Emilie, Scott and James, along with many nieces and nephews. Lucian was born in Poland to Otto and Emma Gietz. He was predeceased by two brothers: Hardy and Roman (Cynthia). War displaced the family and they started a new beginning in Winnipeg. Lucian soon put his skill as a plasterer to work and helped build many homes. After hard work came play, and Lucian was exceptionally good at both. Lucian and his favourite cousin Hardy (Trudy) frequently tore up the town. Lucian loved music and much time was spent at the German Club entertaining with his friends, the Burghardts (Joe and Madeline); it was there that Lucian met Regina. No construction project was too big for Lucian and he helped build several cottages at Beresford Lake. Many happy memories were enjoyed with longtime friends the Boehnkes, Hubatkas, Fincks, Kubels, Van Gerwens, Stiems, Smiths and Harry Bruce. Lucian's stone walls and hearths will stand the test of time. Lucian's lengthy battle with illness started in 1992 and Regina was his caregiver for the next 19 years. We are deeply thankful for our Mother's devoted care which extended Lucian's life. Lucian was a proud man who always helped others. Lucian's passing is an end to his suffering and a life that was lived to the fullest. Lucian loved his family, friends, co-workers and neighbours. At Lucian's request, cremation and a private family service has already taken place. Sincere thanks to Dr. Albak, Grace Hospital staff and Lucian's homecare providers.
